What is Single Jersey Fabric?
Single jersey fabric is a type of fabric used in the production of many textile products. It is often a popular choice for apparel, but is also frequently used in home textiles, especially in the production of fitted sheets.
Single jersey fabric is mostly produced from cotton, a natural fiber. However, they can also be produced from products such as wool, silk, synthetic fibers. It can have patterned and jacquard models, and its elasticity increases as much as the lycra added to its structure.
Single Jersey Fabric, technically speaking; It is produced with a single needle on a single needle bed on single plate circular knitting machines. Plain Single Jersey fabric knitted with cotton or cotton-weighted blended yarns is a single-ply knitted fabric made of low-weight and cotton yarn.
Single jersey fabric is a flat knitted fabric. The front side of the single jersey fabric appears in plain (R) loop structure and the back side appears in reverse (L) loop structure. It is a single-ply knitted fabric that is usually produced in low weight. They are named differently according to the yarns used in their production.
The most known varieties other than the standard plain and low weight jersey fabric are as follows;
Heavy jersey (Heavy Jersey or Heavy Supreme) is woven with double ply yarns. It is named this way because its weight is higher than other single jersey fabrics. Heavy jersey fabrics are also called Double Jersey or Double Jersey fabric.
The elasticity of the fabric increases according to the ratio of lycra added into the cotton weaving. For this reason, these fabrics are called lycra elastic jersey. It is generally used in clothing products.

Single jersey fabrics can be produced in very wide width and length during production. For this reason, they are easily used in large-scale home textile products such as sheets. Thanks to its breathable structure and non-sweating feature, it is highly demanded as bed sheets. Single jersey knitted fabrics are also widely used in summer wear, sportswear, medical and medical clothing.
